NOW SOLD

1920’s Sun Motorcycle lightweight flat tank frame, girders, tank project.

If you’re looking at this ad, then you probably already know about Sun Motorcycles. This is yet another group of parts that I have held onto with a plan to find an appropriate engine and gearbox.

Sun Motorcycles began building flat tank lightweight motorbikes in England in 1911.

They utilised JAP and Blackburne engines for their larger 4-stokes and Villiers for the lightweight 2-strokes. But, alongside the proprietary engine range they developed the VTS engine following the acquisition of the Valveless Two-stroke Company. These were advanced single cylinder 2 stroke engines of 269cc with an excellent performance.

I had planned to find a Villers engine for this as I considered that to be much easier to find than the VTS. I believe the VTS powered machines were mostly exported to places such as Australia and Portugal. If you’re sitting on a VTS engine, then this is the project for you!

If you need a pair of wheels, I may be able to help as I have a pair. However, I am unsure of the size needed for the this lightweight Sun Motorcycle. The wheels that I have include a belt-drive rear. They are not included in this sale.
