1932 600cc Douglas E32 Touring (or Ayredale) Frame & Original fuel tank.

This Douglas E32 vintage rigid motorcycle frame has clear stamped numbers.

The numbers are:  YF 1376 .

The frame is solid. It has some very light surface corrosion, but it’s actually in decent condition. It looks straight too.

*** UPDATE***

While I get further identification from the VMCC Marque specialist, please note that I have been advised the the tank is for an earlier version because of the oil arrangement. The frame might also be for 1929. For now, please decide for yourself. All I can say is that the tank fits, the frame has a number and you can decide if it’s suitable for your needs. Thanks to the person who was kind enough to message me on this.

The best part is that it comes with the correct original steel fuel tank. It’s a snug fit but it is correct. The tank is quite difficult to find so the combination of correct tank and frame is a nice start to a project. If you’ve got the engine sitting under a bench, then this is the chance to move that project on. The correct engine prefix for a 1932 600cc is EQ… Although there are probably not too many around as Douglas Motorcycles were having a hard time financially.

The tank has a low profile indent in the top. With gentle persuasion, this may come out. The tank seems solid but will need a clean out after many years of storage. The surface of the tank is not smooth. It will need a bit of work.

Apart from the numbers, a visible clue to the interesting thing about the 1932 E32 Touring was a small lug in the centre of the first rail at the bottom. The lug was for a draw-bolt. The engine was adjustable fore and aft within the frame. This is because the gearbox was in a fixed position and the primary chain adjustment was achieved by sliding the engine backward and forward using the draw-bolt at the front of the engine.

Bottom line. While it may be for a specific machine, it’s a good early saddle tank Douglas frame capable of taking a fairly large capacity engine.
