1934-37 Val Page Triumph 3 speed gearbox.

How many of these Triumph transmissions do you see for sale?

  • 2/1, L2/1, and 3/1 models, I believe.
  • Case number T264
  • Unique stamp: L-795

I say “I believe” the gearbox is for the Val Page Triumph models 2/1, L2/1, and 3/1. Actually, I know this gearbox was the same as the original one that was fitted into my L 2/1 from 1935. The gearbox cases are identical. This particular gearbox was bought as a spare but it was never used. I have now sold the bike, so this Val Page Triumph 3 speed gearbox is available.

I don’t have the appropriate parts list to check on which other Triumph models had the gearbox fitted. My best guess is that it was fitted to the lighter machines with the 250cc and 350cc engines. I believe, you could part with 30 of your finest British shillings to Triumph, and they would let you have a 4-speed transmission on your new bike instead.

The gearbox comes with the clutch arm, a gear linkage and the backing plate for the clutch with the bolts. It even retains the original oil filler cap.

Condition of this Val Page Triumph 3 speed gearbox

As mentioned already, it has been kept as a spare. I never got around to opening it up, or getting the two small repairs done to the casing. So, it’s for sale as you see it. The only obvious damage is the usual break to the clutch adjuster fixing on the inner cover, and the lower frame mount. Both are relatively simple repairs for someone with the necessary skills.

The gearbox is stiff to turn. Bottom line, it needs a complete clean and rebuild.

All three casings have been together from the start. They are all stamped with the same number, 18.

Other early Triumph parts for sale

Triumph motorcycles are my thing. Every time I buy another vintage Triumph, I always seem to end up buying loads of spares, even though I don’t need them. When I sell the bike, the spares become available. Please take a look at the Triumph spare parts for sale here.
