1936 J.A.P. (J A Prestwich) Side Valve 350cc short motor, turns freely & with timing gear.
This is one of several JAP part-engines that I’m moving on. They’ve been hanging around and it’s time that they were put to use by someone else.
I know nothing of the history as I have had this JAP 350cc for quite a while. The crank turns freely and you have the conrod and piston, together with timing gear as shown in the images. No idea if the oil pump is actually there. The screws for the oil pump cover weren’t going to give up that information without a fight, so I gave up.
The engine cases match as the numbers on each side match up. Of interest though, is the number “23” and another “3” in a circle on the side of one of the mount lugs. I’ve no idea what they mean. If you know, I would love to hear about it. Every day is a school day.
