1936 King of the Road Lucas 310 RS Cycle Battery Lamp.
Still has the original fluted glass with the Lucas King of the Road etching.
Vintage 1930s Lucas bicycle battery headlamp with Bright, Off & Dim options. New patented rubber mount.
This Lucas, King of the Road, cycle headlamp would suit a nice lightweight early motorcycle as a back-up accessory. While Lucas launched this top-of-the-range model in 1936, I thought it would nicely fit on an earlier motorcycle if you have the cycle clip on your handlebars.
It’s battery powered. So, you don’t have all the fuss of an acetylene gas-powered lamp. Just clip it on and use the Off / Dim / Bright options with the top switch. When Lucas launched the Lucas 310 RS Cycle Battery Lamp, they proudly announced the patented rubber back socket that was designed to dampen the vibration. From my research, this cycle lamp was the top one produced.

Condition of the Lucas 310 RS Cycle Battery Lamp
Considering it’s now probably around 88 years old, the condition is remarkable. The chrome rim is excellent. It retains the lovely original front glass. The glass is etched with the Lucas King of the Road emblem and is beautifully fluted. The reflector looks good although it’s not perfect.
The front catch works fine. When you open the front, the rear of the reflector is exposed, along with the battery compartment. The battery connections will need a clean.
There is a small amount of surface corrosion on the mount and on the lower side of the main lamp. It’s very minor but I have shown it on the images.
It would be hard to find another Lucas 310 RS Cycle Battery Lamp in better condition while being original.
