One for the Sporty Rudge enthusiast. A 1938 500cc Rudge Ulster 1cl OHV engine. This engine was made near the end of the Ulster production, so it had the various design enhancements.
It’s being sold as an engine to rebuild. Some fastenings are missing and there’s not much in the timing chest (some parts attached to the push rod tube). The head is as you see in the images. The cast number on the underside is SM M4143X. The head is the 4-Valve Special version.
The barrel is in fair condition and the fins have quite a few chipped ones, as shown. The engine cases are generally good and free from obvious cracks or repairs. The engine number is clear and in-molested. The number is U2568, making this Ulster engine a 1938 one.
The engine has a piston fitted. I have some pushrods which I think belong to this engine.
Yes, it’s missing some parts. Yes, it’s a lot of money. But, these Rudge motors aren’t easy to find with most of the parts.
If you’re in the UK, I’d suggest coming to have a look at it.
