SOLD – 1938 Norton 16H engine ready to go – Prewar rebuilt motor

1938 Norton 16H engine ready to go.

This is a very nice prewar motor. It has very good compression and is ready to go (with the exception of tightening everything, timing and tappet clearances).

Importantly, the number on the barrel and the crank case are the same. So, this is the original barrel.

Work done:

New +0.030 Piston / rings and pin.

New big end bearing (NOS outer race & crankpin, new rollers). End-to-end run about 0.0015″

New small end bearing reamed to suit the new gudgeon pin.

Main bearings are all new (One ball race plus two semi located roller bearings)

NOS Cams and half time gear

New stainless steel bolts for timing cover (one missing)

New stainless studs and nuts for the cylinder

New stainless steel nuts for the cylinder head

You will need to do the following:

Set the tappet clearances

Sort the timing out

Tighten everything

Comments on cosmetics.

This is a genuine 1938 engine. Expect some marks here and there. The barrel has a few small chips. I have done my best to show them in the images. One large section of a lower fin has been welded on. It’s not immediately apparent. You need to look up. There is a small chip out of one of the engine mounts. It is still there but held in place by a piece of tape.
