1938 WD Norton 16H SV Side Valve 490cc engine.
The cases are stamped with clear engine numbers that indicate this is a 1938 motor (The number is W83275) It has the correct “W” prefix indicating that this was issued to the War Department. I have another WD set of cases and they have a lot more markings on them showing which department they were issued to, the quality control kite mark, etc, but theses cases just have the W.
The barrel is stamped with a number. It reads 736221.
The engine cases have another (batch) number stamped on the front left shoulder.
This is an engine from 1938 that needs a complete rebuild. Apart from the obvious broken timing cover, this appears to be almost complete. The crank is locked in position so the engine does not turn over.
