5″ Miller motorcycle acetylene carbide front headlight. For veteran vintage flat tank motorbikes.
I am selling a collection of acetylene / carbide motorcycle lamps. This Miller motorcycle acetylene carbide front headlight is one of a few that include the usual makers: P & H, Lucas etc.
Veteran, Vintage and Antique (if you are in the USA) motorcycles were not usually offered for sale with lighting equipment. Lighting was usually offered as an extra. Most major motorcycle makers offered the lighting kits as extras within their catalogues.
Carbide gas lighting was used up-to about 1930. Prior to 1930, the makers had worked out how to supply electric lighting and it became the norm.
Condition of this Miller motorcycle acetylene carbide front headlight
This particular Miller motorcycle acetylene carbide front headlight is in overall decent condition. It has a small dent on the rim. I have shown this in the images.
Obviously, it has lost most of the black paint over the years. While on the subject of paint, someone must have decorated their garage at some point as it has small white paint splatters on it. I have cleaned some of it off.
The hinge and clasp work fine. The glass is fine. the mirror is original and isn’t in great shape. It has lost much of the silver backing but it is intact. There is no unit to hold the wick.
It comes with the nuts for the side fastenings for the mounts.
