5″ rim diameter, Veteran or Vintage motorcycle Carbide Miller headlamp Model 31H.
- Good mirror / reflector
- Good curved glass
- Good clasp
- Jet included
- Fixing bolts included.
This is a lovely example of a mid-size vintage carbide light that runs off acetylene gas. It would suit a “patina machine” as the original nickel plate has worn off in several places and now shows the underlying brass. This wear is difficult to replicate, so it’s nice to offer a decent lamp with good glass etc, that has some genuine patina.
I say it’s mid-size as the outer diameter of the rim is 5-1/4″ (about 13.3cm). The distance between the two clamps points is the same as the external diameter of the rim.
Condition of the Carbide Miller headlamp
It has a lovely patina. As mentioned, the reflector / mirror is good. The glass is curved (some replacements are flat). It is clean & without cracks.
It comes with the fixing bolt as you see them. The top of the chimney has a tiny ding. There appears to have been a very good solder repair between the peak and the rim. They are usually damaged in this area, so it’s nice to see that this Carbide Miller headlamp has an old repair that is in keeping with the patina.
Other Vintage or veteran carbide lamps and generators – Front, Rear and sidecar lights
I have a few vintage /antique motorcycle headlights that work with acetylene gas created from carbide generators. I also have some generators and tail lights. Please see my other carbide listings. They are mostly Miller, Lucas King of the Road and P & H. However, I have some unusual ones too.
