Alloy Race engine barrel and cylinder head Triumph T70 2H 250cc prewar single motorcycle.
I happen to have a complete 1937 Triumph motorcycle engine fitted with one of these alloy race kits. This one is not needed, so it’s available.
I don’t know much about the history of these alloy race kits. I suspect that most of the information is hearsay. However, it seems to make sense that there were a lot of 350cc Triumph motorcycles laying around after WW2 and people wanted to race them. So some enterprising person set about casting an alloy race engine barrel and cylinder head for the Triumph T70 2H 250cc models.
It seems that there are just a few left.
The barrel and head fitted to my engine appears untouched. If you buy this kit, you are welcome to come and take dimensions from my engine kit. If you are too far away to do that, I have a set of images you can work from.
Condition of the alloy race engine barrel and cylinder head Triumph T70 2H
The kit featured here have been adapted. It looks like the barrel has been re-sleeved. The bore is 63mm. So, it’s STD size for a 250cc. The stud holes have been re-set and the spark plug thread has been re-done. It looks like some of the lower fins on the barrel have been cut off. The top of the head has also been across the sections close to the valve guides.
Anyway, it is what it is. This Alloy Race engine barrel and cylinder head Triumph T70 2H is for sale as you see it.
If you happen to be after an alloy race engine barrel and cylinder head for a Triumph T70 / 2H 250cc, then this is a chance to own one of these rare items.
Here are some images of a similar head fitted to a fairly well known Trials bike. Jack Lilley’s Trials bike.
