Aluminium single cylinder Norton Model 50 cylinder head & rocker box.

348cc OHV 1957 to 1962.

This is a used aluminium cylinder head for the Norton Model 50. I am offering it for sale on behalf of a friend who has now finished with his Nortons. It’s one part of many that I have to add onto this site.

The Norton Model 50 shared many of it’s components with the Model 18 and ES2. The engine has a bore of 71mm and stroke of 88mm.

In 1957, the Norton singles had some substantial improvements. One of these improvements was a re-designed aluminium cylinder head. In 1959, they improved the model further by introducing a featherbed frame and Road Holder forks.

This single cylinder Norton Model 50 cylinder head will suit featherbed and pre-featherbed frames.

Condition of the Aluminium single cylinder Norton Model 50 cylinder head & rocker box.

Cylinder head. Well, the fins are good. From what I can see, there are no chipped fins. It has the valve guides fitted. The facings to the rocker box are fine. The spark plug thread is fine too. The exhaust stub threads are OK and the carb manifold threads are OK too. in fact, the only thread that is not standard is the over-size thread for one of the rocker box bolts. The thread is fine. It just needs a larger diameter stud. (The rocker box has been drilled to accommodate this). The combustion chamber looks fine and without any major damage from pre-detonation. The main face that seats onto the barrel is OK.

Rocker box. As already mentioned, one bolt hole is over-size. It comes with most of the bolts, but not all. What you see is what you get. The cable guide is unusually in good condition and the rocker arms move freely.

If you are looking for a single cylinder Norton Model 50 cylinder head, then this is your opportunity. I haven’t seen many for sale before.

**NOTE** If you only want either the cylinder head or the rocker box, please ask.

Other Norton parts

I have quite a lot left over from various projects of my own. There are some D0minator 88 / 99 twin parts, some Model 50 and ES2 parts and a few prewar parts. Please take a look at the Norton spare parts for sale.
