BTH MC2 AW4 180 degree Magneto horizontal twin vintage Scott TT Replica or Douglas motorcycles C. 1930.
IT HAS SPARKS. I wouldn’t say it has bright blue sparks, but I can see the sparks when I turn it over just by hand. I also got a nice little shock from it!
I am suggesting that this is for the Scott and Douglas motorcycles. However, it may be the Douglas stationary engines (Although, I blieve the stationary engines used the “M2” versions which did not have any advance / retard. I had a BTH TT K-series mag before and I am pretty sure that was for the Scott TT. I understand that the BTH MC2 differs from the M2 version because the “C” is for Cycle as in motorcycle. I had a MD2 before and that was the successor to the “C” models.
- Rotation is clockwise
- It produces sparks
- From around 1930
It sparks when it turns. I cannot guarantee the quality of the spark but it looks OK even when I turn it by hand. I would have been using it if it was suitable for my own project but the rotation is incorrect for my little Douglas 2-3/4 HP.
Overall it is in good, used, condition. No obvious damage or cracks to the magneto.
Obviously, the Scott motorcycles are 2-stroke, and Douglas are 4-stroke. Having the correct magneto for a 2-stroke machine is important. It’s turning at twice the speed and the components need to be up-to-it. If this is for a Scott TT Replica / Flying Squirrel motorcycle, then some lucky person will get the right magneto for the job.
