Flat tank motorcycle carbide lights Lucas King of the Road acetylene gas generator Model No62.
It is in very good condition and comes with the frame clamp. It also has the much sought-after original screw-in cap for the water container. The cap has a chain attached.
This is an original gas generator. It is usually coupled with a carbide headlight, which has a flame from burnt acetylene gas. The gas is created when water, from the compartment at the top of the generator, drops onto carbide in the base of the generator.
I have taken this one apart and have shown what it looks like in the carbide container. It is very clean.
This King of the Road Lucas carbide gas generator is Model #62. Over the years, they made several different models which varied in design and size. Some of them were much smaller. The small ones were often used in conjunction with the small rear carbide lamps.
6-3/4″ tall, excluding the fittings at the top. Approximately 3″ diameter.
Many people now buy these for their antique, veteran or vintage motorcycles as final “decorations”. They are rarely used as originally intended. In reality, the light projected from the lamps is very poor when compared to modern standards. However, they finish off the look of a bike and are excellent accessories.
Condition of the Lucas gas generator for motorcycle carbide lights
Good. In fact, very good. See the images showing the lower container where the carbide is stored and the acetylene gas is generated. It is spotless.
The external paint is very good. It has been used in a motorcycle and stored, so there are tiny marks and the wing nuts for the clamp need a polish. The paint has a few marks but it is much better than most of these generators.
As mentioned, it comes with the frame clamp. The frame clamp could probably do with a re-paint to bring it up to the standard of the cylinder. It has a few chips.
It also comes with the correct screw in cap for the water container. These are usually missing.
I have not tested this motorcycle carbide lights generator.
