Heavyweight Albion 4-speed motorcycle gearbox – AJW & Possibly Vincent, Montgomery, Royal Enfield. It might suit others.
Albion produced dozens of variations of this 4-speed gearbox. Please look at the measurements on the mounts and compare with your needs.
Because of the source for this gearbox, I believe it will suit one of the AJW motorcycles. The AJW Silver Fox, Red Fox and Flying Fox are all likely candidates. They either had the JAP 500cc OHV engine or a Rudge Python engine.
If you have access to check stamped numbers, they are HY 114. I think the Vincent gearboxes were similar. I know it’s neither of the special Vincent ones; HDR (Close Ratio) or the HCL (Ali case with normal gears and a kick start). It just has “HY”.
Condition of the heavyweight Albion 4-speed gearbox
It’s in good condition. There are no obvious cracks to the case or cover. The drive sprocket looks usable. The gearbox turns as it should and sounds smooth. It clicks through the gears.
The lower mount looks like it has a very tidy repair at some point. The gear shaft splines look good.
Bear in mind that this is a used gearbox and was kept as a spare
