J.A.P. (JA Prestwich) 600cc 1928 Side Valve engine for rebuild.

This JAP SV has matching cases and the following numbers: UCZ/Z 94446/5

U= 600cc C= 1928 Z= Dry Sump Lubrication (according to my records). So it has the oil pump lubrication. A relatively new thing in 1928. It was probably originally supplied as an industrial engine but see no reason why it couldn’t be used in an old motorcycle.

The engine is being sold for rebuild. The crank doesn’t turn. I haven’t taken the engine apart to release the crank on the basis that whoever buys it will need to rebuild it anyway. Some of the fixing s are missing. In particular, the cylinder head / barrel studs.

The engine comes with the cylinder head, barrel, piston, crank with connecting rod and matching case halves. The only bit of damage that I can see, is to one of the engine mounts and a small fin chip on the head. I’ve shown what I can in the images. It’s no disaster zone and can easily be repaired. The fins are nice. It has a “JAP” outer timing cover. The mag chain is inside. The valves and valve springs are there under the little ali cover.

Head: 112753 (I think. Take a look at the pics)

Inside the timing cover: 11750/1 JD

Piston: M13  21037F  A63

The piston comes with the gudgeon pin as you see it. It also has the rings and they all move freely. The barrel will need some attention. A thin layer of oxidisation is on it.

Overall, this 1928 JAP 600cc Side Valve engine is in decent condition and is a good start for a nice engine build.
