Joseph Lucas No 344 tail lamp for pre-1930 vintage or veteran motorcycles.
This is a lovely nickel plated carbide acetylene gas rear light. The plating is nice. Not perfect but still good enough. The images are close-ups, so they show all of the detail. When fitted to your flat tank motorcycle, it will still look great.
People often like to match them up with a couple of Lucas gas producers and an appropriate front headlamp. I have a selection. Please see the link below.
Most people don’t use them as they were intended. They are mostly considered an accessory to decorate a veteran, or vintage, motorcycle. They were originally sold as accessories anyway.
For some reason, this design of Lucas nickel plated carbide tail lamp is one of the most popular. It may be because it has a sturdy 3-point attachment that is usually fitted to the side of the number plate. This design has the inward-facing clear window to light up the number plate, in addition to the ruby-red prism cut rear lens.
Condition of the Lucas No 344 tail lamp
This Lucas rear lamp is in great condition. The nickel plate is very nice. It’s not perfect. It’s just very good. Even the mount is nickel plated.
The hinge for the rear lens works well. It clips firmly shut. It has the jet / burner fitted.
The mounting bracket is firmly attached.
Other Vintage or veteran carbide lamps and generators – Front, Rear and sidecar lights
I have a few vintage /antique motorcycle headlights that work with acetylene gas created from carbide generators. I also have some generators and tail lights. Please see my other carbide listings. They are mostly Miller, Lucas King of the Road and P & H. However, I have some unusual ones too.
If you are looking for a Lucas No 344 tail lamp, I currently have a couple. If you miss out, just let me know and I will message when I have another one available.
