NOW SOLD
Late version 1950s Triumph Pre-Unit Rigid Frame gearbox 500cc 650cc T910 with speedo drive.
Thunderbird, 6T, T100, 5t, Speed Twin etc, as long as they are the rigid framed variety. It will fit the 3T Deluxe too.
The main case has a cast number T910, placing it between from around 1950. The main gearbox casing has a number is 40205NA. Because of the speedometer drive, I believe this is a later version of the rigid frame transmission box. So, I guess it’s from around 1953-55.
This is being sold as a gearbox needing rebuild, as I haven’t touched it. It turns fine. But it will need to be taken apart, cleaned and re-assembled. Some parts have a very light amount of surface corrosion.
Condition of the 1950s Triumph Pre-Unit Rigid Frame gearbox
As mentioned, I haven’t taken it apart. It turns and makes the right “clicks”.
A few niggles are: There is a little bit of corrosion on the rear face of the lower mount. It’s not bad and the mount is very sound. In fact, both mounts are good and without the usual little chips and breaks.
The main case and outer cover do not have any weld repairs. However, the usual damage has occurred to the clutch adjuster on top the case. It’s not so bad that you can’t use it. But it could do with a repair.
As you can see from the images, there is no gear indicator needle or a cap on the outer cover. These are easily purchased.
Overall this 1950s Triumph Pre-Unit Rigid Frame gearbox is decent value for money.
Other early Triumph parts.
Occasionally, I have some Triumph parts. I used to have various pre-unit Triumphs and kept a stock of spares. They have slowly dwindled to a very small number. However, I get offered parts regularly. So, please get in touch and let me know what you need.
