Lucas DU42 Headlamp with flat glass, switches and wiring EX WD. – 6.5″
Apparently EX War Department. The glass is that nice obscured flat type that would look nice on a late 1930’s bike. It happens to be very similar to the headlight that is fitted to my 1934 Val Page Triumph motorcycle.
Don’t confuse this with the modern reproductions. This is an original lamp with the correct Lucas rear panel / beam unit / switch/ ammeter. The ammeter is without a needle.

It could do with a re-paint if you want something perfect. I like them just like this with a little wear and tear.
I say “apparently” it’s ex War Department because I was told this. I think the Lucas light switches during WW2 had a different setting other than “off, low, high”. I might be wrong there. Anyway, It’s a lovely old Lucas DU42 that will make a very nice addition to someone’s motorcycle.
As mentioned, the ammeter does not have a needle. I have a newer ammeter that I can supply just so that you can use the needle in this one. You might be able to find the original needle and re-attach it. It can’t disappear by magic!
I have done my best to show the internal wiring connections. One or two wires do not have covering. See the images.
