Lucas King’s Own carbide acetylene motorcycle headlamp
- This is model #454.
- The glass is approximately 4″ diameter.
- The external rim diameter is about 5″.
- 17.5 cm long x 14 cm high x 13.5 cm diameter (max)
Dare to be different. Instead of the usual “King of the Road” Lucas headlamp, have a Lucas King’s Own.
From what I can see the lamp is original apart from the new looking wick /burner and the fact that someone has applied black paint to the peak, rim and chimney. It will clean off but I have left the parts just as they are, with patina. Some people like the patina and you can never put it back.
Condition: The peak has a small tear. the glass has a crack across the full width. However, it holds in place. The rim is dented near to the hinge and the chimney has a few dings. The original mirror has lost some of the silver reflective surface. On the positive, this Lucas carbide lamp appears to be original. The rim hinge and the clasp both work well and it has the wick holder. The rear fastening key turns fine.
If you have an old machine and you are looking for a Lucas carbide acetylene motorcycle headlamp with patina, then this King’s Own light would look greta as it is. Or, polish it up. Or…. strip it and bling it to look like new!
