Late 1920s / early 1930s Vintage Triumph Model W or WS gearbox with a direct hand change mechanism.
I saw a similar gearbox on the 1927 TT model. I’m not suggesting that it is off a 1927 TT model, but the gearbox looks very similar. The ’27 TT had a sturdier gear change mount than this one, but it was in the same location. The shape of the outer cover was also very similar. So, my best guess is that it must be for a model of around 500cc in the mid-to-late Twenties.
Thanks to “R” in Belgium for helping me out. The gearbox is showing in his 1929 parts catalogue for the Model W and WS. So, it ought to cover the years 1929-31 for these models.
It might suit other years and models, but having it shown in a parts catalogue certainly helps.
It has a couple of patent numbers cast on the main box. Provisional patent 32186/26 (I guess that’s a clue that it’s after 1926), and Patent 243851.
As mentioned, this appears to be a hand change direct to the gearbox and has 2 stud mounting.
I have made a very short clip showing the gears turning both ways. Just ask and I will see if I can get it to you. The cover only has one bolt. 2 of the cover bolts have sheared so they will need to be drilled and tapped. There don’t appear to be any cracks. Clearly, the hand change lever has broken at the tip.
Any questions, please ask.
Viewing: Please come and check it over before you buy. It is at PE28, near St Ives in Cambridgeshire.
Shipping: I usually ship to most destinations. If you don’t see a price, please ask. Thanks. International shipping available.
Collection: If you don’t want it shipped, I have plenty of space. If you can’t collect for a while, it’s not a problem. However, I will need to be paid very soon after the sale. Thanks.
Payment: Good old fashioned money on collection is preferred. I can accept payment through PayPal or by bank transfer as well.
Import Taxes: (I need to mention this as I had someone buy something from me and they were based in Europe. They thought I should list the item including all taxes and shipping. Considering import duties vary enormously, this is impractical even if it was possible). Please note that IMPORT DUTIES are not something I can control. If you are buying from outside the UK, there is a chance that you will have to pay import taxes. Import taxes vary from country to country. If there are charges to pay, it is the buyer’s responsibility to research the cost and pay the duties. The price that you see on my advert is for the item and not the item plus whatever taxes might be due.
