Norton Laydown 4 speed gearbox

Norton Laydown 4 speed gearbox needing a check over.

The main case for this laydown transmission is G101. There were other similar ones that had stamps with G102 and GB8. I am not sure whether this is suitable for a Dominator Wideline or Slimline frame. Please see the note below on measuring the mounting widths.

I understand that they all look much the same but with minor differences. For example, the clutch cable entry is a 1-1/2″ threaded tower on some. On others, it is cut down substantially.

However, the main area to consider is the widths of the gearbox mountings. They differ. Always check your frame requirements for these mounting widths.

This G101 Norton Laydown 4 speed gearbox has the following frame mount widths:

• Upper – 83.5mm
• Lower – 89mm

It is being sold as a transmission that will need to be checked over at the least. I have opened it up and shown what I can in the images, without completely dismantling it. The case looks OK. It has the “Norton” outer adjustment cover. The case threads look OK.

The kickstart, gear shaft and drive shaft splines are all used but still usable on this Norton Laydown 4 speed gearbox.

It comes with the kickstart spring and sprocket that you see in the images. It will need cover fixings.
