Original leather tool case for vintage motorcycles made by Midland from 1926.
This is a very nice original rectangular leather toolbox made by a British company that started out in Birmingham. According to their first catalogue, produced in 1926, they produced Cycle, Motorcycle & Car Accessories and traded as The Midland Gear Case Co. Ltd. As far as I can work out, they still made accessories for cars and motorcycles during WW2 as they supplied things like panniers to BSA for the WM20.
They produced all sorts of leather accessories that included: Celluloid Chain Covers, Patent Express Chain Covers, Moleskin, Hidene and Leather Gear Cases, Tool Bags, Canvas Bags, Splashers, Saddle Covers, Motor Cycle Tool Bags, Tool Rolls, Inner Tube Carriers, Knee Grips, etc and Motor Car Radiator Muffs.
In true 1920s style the products were named. For example: The “Allcroft”, “Anglo”, “Nero” and “Monark” Chain Covers, “Defyall” Tool Bags, “Comfi” Saddle Cover, The “Mudstop” , Mudsplasher and the “Ironclad” Tool Bag.
This particular vintage motorcycle leather toolbox is embossed with “The Midland”, after the Company.
Condition: It is in good condition, with very slight wear to the crease on the opening flap. It retains the original clasp and has the original frame fixings. This tool box is different to most early motorcycle ones. It is completely made in leather, as opposed to the usual ones that are part-steel with leather fronts. They were usually installed inside the rear frame carrier. This leather toolbox is designed to hang from the frame. The clasp works but there is no key.

IMPORTANT: The catalogue in the pictures IS NOT FOR SALE. It is just there to give you background evidence that this company existed in 1926.
