Off to enjoy the country roads in Brittany, France

Original spec pre-unit Triumph 650cc 6T Thunderbird in very good riding condition with transferable plate.

This is my coveted 1955 swing arm Triumph Thunderbird 650, fitted with a slightly later big bearing engine (1958). There is a video on my FB page with it running.

This is a very nice machine to ride. Sadly, it doesn’t get out enough. It has some very nice parts including the rare “pie crust” front wheel hub with air scoop on the brake plate.

The previous owner put this bike back to original specification. I liked that as many bikes had been “upgraded” with ali Bonneville heads with splayed heads and twin carbs. This now has the correct iron head and barrel with the single carb. All round, it’s less maintenance. It’s very tidy. Used, not abused. I must have done less than 300 miles in 3 years though. It’s in danger of just becoming that bike that sits in the collection.

There are some really tiny jobs that could do with being done. The saddle is mark-free but where it’s glued onto the base, it just needs re-fixing on one side. Because it hasn’t been used much, it coughs a bit. So, the carb will need a really good clean. (I bought an ultrasonic box to clean the jets but haven’t even plumbed it in yet). That’s all there is. It’s not concours but it IS very nice.  It has both side and centre stands.

It’s on the log book as “Silver”. But it’s actually a correct colour. It’s like a silver with a hint of green. As you can see, the paint on the nacelle is a little crazed but all of the other paint is good. You notice it close up but from 6′ away, I can’t even see it.

It starts, runs and rides through the gears. No issues with the clutch or brakes and I keep it stored in a clean, dry, insulated environment.

As some are obsessed with whether the plate is transferrable…. Yes it is. There are no comments on the log book to the contrary.

I could ask more and haggle away, but now that I have made the decision to sell, I want it gone. So, please….. DON’T ask me “what’s your best price bud?” or a variant of that. It’s cheap for what it is. If you are serious about buying it, and you have the money ready, then I will discuss it in person. If you can’t make it, please send a friend.
