Original The Rudge Book Of The Road printed around 1927 Packed with interesting chapters. Some of the subjects are well-meaning at the time, but quite funny now. In particular, “The Law and the Road” where we are told that “the exhaust from the motorcycle must pass through the proper expansion chamber….” The advice then goes on to say “In practice, however, the definition of undue noise depends on the opinion of the policeman on the spot”
Oh how we wish that was the way today!
This is a great book for a vintage Rudge-Whitworth owner. It is part sales brochure and part touring handbook with a series of UK maps at the back and even describes the height of specific hills.
It shows the models produced at the time and includes the 7″ long Rudge caravan!
It describes the range of Rudge Motorcycles – Standard, Special and Sport along with the Sidecars and Caravan. In addition it contains details of Rudge sporting successes, including the TT. However much of publication is given over to hints and tips on touring by motorcycle including a full road maps section, driving abroad, maintenance, legalities of motorcycle riding, ferries, lighting up times and even spotting different styles of architecture.
It is not Dated, but one of the motorcycles is a 1927 model and the TT chapter is on the forthcoming 1927 race.

Good used condition with a slightly grubby cover, and a Liverpool Rudge-Whitworth motorcycle agents stamp on the title page. The binding is slightly loose but the pages are still in there.
