P&H veteran vintage bicycle motorcycle carbide acetylene headlamp
I believe that this antique front lamp is the Chieftan model within the Powell & Hanmer range of early lights. It’s suitable for bicycles and veteran motorcycles with the elbow-shaped fixing on the steering head.
This Powell & Hanmer carbide headlamp is well presented, considering it is over 100 years old. It is one of a few carbide / acetylene gas-powered lights that I have available. Although, most of the lights are much larger and are for motorcycles.
It seems that the main three manufacturers for carbide motorcycle headlamps are; Miller, Lucas and P&H. There were others, but these makers are the most prolific.
Condition:
Average – to – Good. It appears to be complete with the burner / wick and the gas generator. The spring that works in conjunction with the mounting works fine. The hinge and clasp work fine. It retains the original reflector. It’s a bit marked.
Clearly, the original black paint has been chipped. So, I guess it would suit a patina cycle or motorcycle.
Overall, this P&H veteran vintage bicycle motorcycle carbide acetylene headlamp is in good condition and would suit most types of flat tank vintage, veteran, motorcycles.
