Pioneer-era Veteran motorcycle carbide lamp set with brackets and acetylene gas producer.

This is a P&H (Powell & Hanmer) veteran motorcycle carbide lamp set.

I am not certain of the date yet. However, the headlamp has some unusual features that I have not seen on my other carbide lamps. The main difference is the knurled knob for the catch to open the lamp. It’s much more substantial than the usual clips that are more common.

Also, the shape of the chimney is unusual as it rises more at the rear. The reflector is also an unusual shape. The mirror appears to be an early one as it has some silver wear. I am not sure that it’s an original mirror, but it certainly suits the lamp.

Early lamp sets like this are hard to find. I only have one other set. That’s a Lucas one.

Condition of the Veteran motorcycle carbide lamp set

They are old. There are marks and the chimney on the headlamp has a small ding. I have shown this in the images. As mentioned, the silvering on the mirror isn’t perfect. However, it’s much better than many of these carbide lamps that I have seen. The brass rim and peak are very nice, as you can see. The clamps have lost a bit of paint.

I haven’t opened up the acetylene gas generator. The gas producer exterior is in decent condition, with some very minor dinks.

Bottom line, this veteran motorcycle carbide lamp set would grace any vintage flat tank motorcycle.
