Pioneer-era veteran motorcycle Lucas carbide lamp set with brackets and acetylene gas generator
This is a veteran motorcycle Lucas carbide lamp set.
This set is designed to clamp around the girder fork main stem. See the image of the lamp set from above.
The headlamp is not the usual “King of the Road” model. It’s a Lucas Kings Own headlamp with the model number 341. The Lucas gas producing cylinder is number 51.
The headlamp has a peak and is fitted with the gas outlet. It still has some of the light nickel plating. The clamps are a sturdy set that allow the headlight to keep well clear, with the gas producer inline and just behind the handlebars (above the tank.
Early lamp sets like this are hard to find. I only have one other set. That’s a Powell & Hanmer one. If you don’t have a particular preference of maker, please see the full selection in the link below.
Condition of the veteran motorcycle Lucas carbide lamp
They are old. There are marks from age. The nickel plate on the headlamp shows signs of wear. The mirror has a crack, although this shouldn’t have a significant effect on the operation of the lamp. The hinge and clasp for the front cover work well.
I haven’t opened up the acetylene gas generator. The gas producer exterior is in decent condition. As you can see, it’s painted. It retains the all-important screw-in water cap.
Bottom line, this veteran motorcycle Lucas carbide lamp set would grace any vintage flat tank motorcycle.
