Pre-1930 vintage lightweight BSA girder forks for 1928-30 BSA 174cc two-stroke motorcycle.
The 1928 Model is the A28 BSA 2-stroke motorbike. It was launched in 1928 and only lasted until the end of 1930. It was another 17 years, before BSA offered another two-stroke machine.
Visually, they are distinguished from the heavier-weight siblings by two main features. On all other models, the top of the forks meet in one join. On these lightweight BSA girder forks, they meet as two separate items and are bolted together.
The other main difference is the headstock. This set of lightweight BSA girder forks comes with the headstock. As you can see, it has two bolts to attach to the rest of the frame. On all other BSA’s, the top rail and front part of the frame are “let-into” the headstock.
The good news is that the headstock has some cast numbers and some frame numbers. So, if you have a 174cc BSA lurking about your shed with out numbers, here’s your chance. The cast number on the headstock is 28-2300.
Condition of the lightweight BSA girder forks
Well, they are used and lack most of the paint. There are traces of paint here and there.
The lower sections have pock-marks, but they are still strong. They are incomplete, so what you see is what you get.
