NOW SOLD
Prewar Velocette MAC 350cc engine for sale. It’s being sold as an engine that will require a rebuild and would suit the girder fork models.
The engine number is MAC 5709. According to the factory despatch book No7, the engine number is in the sequence from February 1939 to 1944. The numbers ran from 5517 to 6735, so an educated guess would put this engine just before September 1939. It doesn’t have any War Dept markings.
The engine is almost complete. The cases are in decent condition and the halves have matching numbers. The timing chest items are as you see in the images and includes the oil pump. The crank, con rod and piston are all there. The cylinder head still has the valves and springs fitted. The rocker box has the rockers inside. The fins are generally good. There will be a few fixings missing (like on the timing cover and push rods). The front mounts are included.
Despite me taking pictures without the cylinder studs and nuts, they are included.
So, if you’re after a decent prewar Velocette MAC engine to rebuild, then this is a good place to start.
The cylinder will need a hone at the least as this engine stood for a while in poorly stored conditions by someone. Consequently, the piston is stuck. I have put some WD40 down the bore just to see if that will free it up. On the underside of the cases, one area has been chipped where one of the case bolts is. It’s a very old “injury” and doesn’t seem to have affected the motor. Also, there may be a very small crack in one of the rocker caps. I have looked on the inside of the cap to see if anything is there. No crack on the inside. If it is a crack, it’s only the cap.
