Rebuilt Sturmey Archer Competition TT lightweight vintage motorcycle gearbox

This small Sturmey Archer TT gearbox is a bit of a mystery. I have plenty of information on the TS model. As I’m not a specialist in Sturmey Archer motorcycle gearboxes, I don’t have detailed records of any boxes that they supplied for competition. All that I know is that the “TT” stamp suggests that it was a competition box.

I’m told that the Calthorpe motorcycles used them. I guess around 1910-15. As it’s a Sturmey Archer gearbox, I imagine it was supplied to many other manufacturers of lightweight veteran and vintage motorcycles.

The only reference that I can find to a TT box, is an advert for a shell only for a 3-speed version that was model type 10P. It was also a 2-stud box.

It’s 2-stud. So, it’s for early machines up to about mid 1920’s. The sequential number is 568.

Condition: I can confirm that it turns smoothly by hand. It appears to have been rebuilt and made ready for use with a pulley, “clutch” worm lever and gear change on the side.

The casing is intact. It doesn’t have cracks.

If you wish to spend less on one of these, I have another one, with a pulley but without the worm drive and selector.

Collection: If you don’t want it shipped, I have plenty of space. If you can’t collect for a while, it’s not a problem. However, I will need to be paid very soon after the sale. Thanks.

Payment: This site has a facility to pay online. Good old fashioned money on collection is preferred. I can accept payment through PayPal or by bank transfer as well.

Import Taxes: Please note that IMPORT DUTIES are not something I can control. If you are buying from outside the UK, there is a chance that you will have to pay import taxes. The price that you see on my advert is for the item and not the item plus whatever taxes might be due.
