Stewart Warner 0-75 MPH magnetic type speedometer
I think it’s from the 1910’s or 1920’s. Most likely 1920’s as 75 MPH max on the speedometer was more than ambitious for the mid teens.
I took this in exchange for some other precious object. It is of no interest to me for my projects, so it’s available.
The speedometer turns when you run it up on a drill. I might not have the correct technique, but I can’t get the trip to reset. The only other thing worth mentioning is that there is a small crack on the side of the lovely brass bezel. I’ve shown it in the images. I presume someone has over-tightened it at some point.
Although it works when you run it on a drill, consider this as a Stewart speedometer that might need some work.
Either way, it’s a lovely addition to a vintage or veteran flat tank motorcycle. I believe that Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles used them as accessories. I also think that many American cars used them.
