Triumph unit 500cc 350cc complete gear set cluster T21 3TA 5TA T100A T100SS 1958-63
This is a decent, seemingly complete, gearbox cluster with the selector forks, quadrant, inner and outer covers. I say, seemingly complete as that’s the way it looks to me. However, you need to check the images to see what is included. If you have any doubts, either don’t buy it, or ask me if a specific part is there.
I haven’t taken it all apart. But, I have checked the hears over for missing teeth or chips. I can’t see any damage. Obviously, there’s a bit of wear (It’s not brand new), but I would happily use it in my bike. Well, I would if it was appropriate for my 1966 T90. On checking the numbers of teeth on each year, it seems that this is an earlier set. The quantity of teeth match the years of 1958 to 1963. It includes the following models:
- T21
- 3TA
- 5TA
- T100A
- T100SS
During the years 1958 – 1960, the gear specs were the same as the one on offer and included T21, 3TA, 5TA, T100, T100A:
Main shaft
- High: 26T T1403
- Cluster 3rd / Low: 28T / 19T
- 2nd: 23T T1410
Lay shaft
- Cluster 2nd / High: 28T / 18T T1479
- 3rd: 23T T1413
- Low: 32T T1414
The gear sets between 1961 and 1963 included 3TA, 5TA, T100A and T100SS from engine number 18612. The number of teeth were the same as the ones above but the layshaft cluster with 2nd and High gears were different.
The part number for the 3TA / 5TA was T1479 and the part number for the T100 A / SS was T1615. I can’t see any physical difference, but remain open to being educated.
I have two outer covers for this gearbox. I am pretty sure that the correct one is part number T1450 (the one with the curved bit that goes forward and under the main engine). It is included. If you are looking for the one without the curved bit (T1637), then I have one of those too but it’s not included here.
