Triumph pre unit T100 500cc twin close fin ali vintage motorcycle engine 1951
This engine is being sold as one for rebuild.
It has a very nice cylinder head and barrel with the sought-after close fins in ali.
It has marks from use and will need a good clean. But, the 8 stud head and barrel do not have cracks in the usual places around the stud holes. Have a good look at the images. I can’t see any. Overall, threads look fine. you will need to add some fixings to your shopping list as (for example) there aren’t any for the timing cover. There are no rockers / rocker covers or sump plate and various other parts like the timing gear wheels.
The numbers are:
- Engine cases: T100 13202 NA
- Close fin ali Cylinder head: E2679
- Close fin ali Barrels: E2958
- Cast number on the case on the Timing side: E2219
Engine cases: Generally in good condition with matching case halves. The crank is fitted , together with the conrods but there are no pistons. The crank turns smoothly. The cases have the timing gears included as shown.
Barrels: One chip to one fin as shown. It’s on the top, so is mostly covered by the cylinder head. They need a clean externally. The linings look nice and thick and the skirts are OK. According to my Vernier, they measure 62mm.
Cylinder head: As you can see, it is still fitted with 3 valves and 2 springs. It will need a good clean and de-coke. These heads usually suffer from over-tightening the head bolts and resulting in cracks. From what I can see this head is fine. There are some very small chips ( I’d describe them as nibbles) to the fins as you can see in the images. If you need a close up, let me know. The exhaust stubs look ok. Spark plug threads are fine. The threads for the rocker cover mounts are fine.

I bumped into someone who sold a set of just the barrels recently in a bidding war on that famous site. They sold for over £600! You can get all of this for a similar price.
