Triumph Tiger Cub T20 fuel tank 3 gallons “humped” shape. T20 models from 1959.
In 1959, Triumph decided to change the look of the fuel tank. So, they included a 3 gallon gas / fuel / petrol tank to the range. Some models still retained the sleeker profile 3-1/8 gallons (14 litre) “flat” shaped tank. However, the standard Triumph Tiger Cub and the (T20J) Junior Cub had the new “humped” tank, together with the bikini panels and new one-piece badges.
This style of Triumph Tiger Cub T20 fuel tank 3 gallons “humped” shape, continued on until the end of production. There were other models (like the competition, scrambler & trials ones) that kept the original shaped tanks. I imagine this was because they didn’t have bikini panels.
This particular fuel tank is painted in the correct colours for the UK-delivered 1960 versions of the Triumph Tiger Cub T20 fuel tank. Black over Crystal grey.
It comes as you see it, with the fuel cap, original Triumph one-piece tank badges and knee grips.
Condition of the Triumph Tiger Cub T20 fuel tank.
Overall, this tank is in very good condition. It’s usable as it is.
Inside, it’s very clean. I have shown an image of the inside.
Outside, it is in decent condition. The paint is generally good. However, there are two scratched worth mentioning. they are near each other and shown in the images. One is deeper than the other. But I think you could polish them out. It wouldn’t make the tank perfect, but it would be OK for a patina machine. There are two paint chips. The really small one is near the front and the slightly larger one is above the RH tank badge. (both shown).
The fuel tap thread looks fine.
If you look at the rear mountings, they have been cut a little. I presume someone wanted it to be easily detached from the frame. There is enough there to use as is, or you could easily repair.
