Veteran Iron Bodied SENSPRAY carburettor with original LEVERS.
This veteran Iron Bodied Senspray carburettor is an early one. The iron body is stamped “1915” and it comes as you see it, with the original dual levers connected. This early Senspray motorcycle carb is hard enough to find. To find it with the original, correct, levers still attached is remarkable.
The carb has an insert in the carb mount. The inside diameter of the spigot insert is 7/8″. With the insert removed from the body, the spigot mount inside diameter is 1″.
Many veteran and vintage motorcycles had this type of Senspray carburettor fitted. It’s the “Standard” model. They have a 1″ stub fitting and it was the most common version.
Senspray offered other versions. For example, the 750cc Rudge had a 1-1/4″ stub fitting.
When moaning to me about the price, please consider:
- Iron veteran Senspray carbs are very hard to find as complete items.
- It comes with the original twin levers
- I know of another one, but they want €900 (£760 at today’s rate)
I happen to have some later Senspray carburettors made from Mazac. But the carburettor that everyone wants for their vintage or veteran motorcycles is the early one with the iron body.
The die cast versions replaced these iron (steel) bodied Senspray carbs in 1920.
Condition of the veteran Iron Bodied Senspray carburettor
It’s just as you see it in the images. I have only cleaned it just to check on condition for any repairs. I am pleased to say that I do not see any repairs. The levers work but the carb barrel will need to be removed and cleaned properly for them to move freely. It’s not stuck. It’s just dirty.
I removed both of the caps to show both ends of the main body internals. See the images.
I have also removed the float bowl cap. The tickler on the top works. I am not certain that the float and clip are for this carburettor. They will be supplied with it anyway. There is no float needle.

If you need something specific, please message me. I might have it. I don’t add everything on here. In the meantime, please take a look though the parts for motorcycle made in 1915 and before here. Or take a look at the 1916 to 1930 parts here.
