War Department issue 1940s Leather engineer’s tool box / bag

This WD leather tool bag is ideal for any WW2 re-enactment but I just used it as a lovely old leather case for carrying tools and spares on my pre-war motorcycles.

I had another one of these boxes with a WD kite mark and was embossed with SE Norris &Co. This leather tool box doesn’t have the WD kitemark, but it does have what appears to be a military issue number. It says: 942 6898 AS81.

Of course, without the WD Kitemark, I imagine this is late 1940’s military department.

It’s useable, but not immaculate.

The handles are well attached. The front left one needs another rivet fastening as that’s missing. The fastening to close the box still works and it has the original metal lining to the lower section. It’s all held together by the original rivets.

Measures in inches: L 13.5″  x D 6″ at base and 5.25″ at top  x H 7.25″

Perfect for sticking a few spares in and strapping onto your rear rack when out on a run.
