Pre Unit RIGID frame Triumph WIDE Ratio 4-speed gearbox for scramblers, trials or ISDT type competitions.
Triumph Bonneville, T110, T100, TR5 Trophy, TR6 Trophy etc. or even a Thunderbird 6T if you fancy it.
It’s an original Wide Ratio gearbox for rigid Triumph ISDT / Trials/ Scramblers. This one is correctly stamped. Please come and open it up for yourself and do your own inspection. It’ is being sold as a gearbox that hasn’t been tried and tested. It turns fine but I just haven’t used it myself.
The gearbox casing is correctly stamped with WR close to the production number stamp. The main case is the usual one with cast number T910. It comes with a used 17T sprocket. The cases do not have any cracks but there has been a small weld repair to a mount (shown). It’s an old repair and seems to have held well.
I’ve researched the parts lists from 1946 through to 1954. The casings marked with T910 seem to have been issued between 1950 and 1954. I say “seem” because the parts lists actually state “T909” rather than T910. I’ve had this before with Triumph parts. They seemed to forget to update the parts lists. Anyway, I think it’s safe to assume that this gear casing is from 1950 to ’54.
Prior to 1950, (1946 to 1949), the main casing was one of these: T264, T264A or T264B, with the exception of the WD TRW (2B). That model was issued with T909 as a main case.
The wide ratio gears that were installed between 1950 and 1954 were as follows:
(These were in direct replacement of their equivalent gear and all the others were standard)
- Main HIGH 28T T969
- Main 2nd 19T T968
- Layshaft HIGH 18T T971
- Layshaft 2nd 27T T974
I have a few standard Triumph Pre-unit swing arm gearboxes (rigid frame and swing arm ones) but this is the only wide ratio one that I have.
