Triumph Rigid frame gearboxes 1946 to 1954
Tiger T85, T100, 3T DeLuxe, 5T Speed Twin, 6T Thunderbird, TR5 Trophy, Tiger T110
There seems to be quite a lot of speculation and confusion out there over the gearbox casing cast numbers for post war rigid framed Triumph motorcycles.
I’ve spent a bit of time looking through the Triumph parts lists from 1946 to 1954 as I have a vested interest. I have a few Triumphs from that period and I’d like to make sure that I have the correct gearboxes in the right frames. I also have a couple of Wide Ratio gearboxes and had a Close Ratio one.
Please bear in mind that my source is factory parts lists and nothing else. To add a bit of confusion, in their infinite wisdom, Triumph issued many gearboxes with a cast number “T910” and this number is not listed. So, I will assume that it was a modest upgrade from T909. Feel free to advise me on this as you can’t be an expert in everything.
