Triumph T100 500cc Pre-Unit BIG Bearing motorcycle engine with Close Fin ali head and barrel.
The number is shown in the images. It dates this engine to 1956.
This is one of the sought-after big bearing pre unit Triumph T100 engines. I have been holding onto it as a replacement engine for one of my bikes. I have not got around to having it rebuilt, so it’s available as it is.
The engine number is clear an unmolested. The timing gears are fitted and I have removed the outer cover to show that they exist. The engine is not timed.
There are no pistons fitted. The valves and sets of springs are there, but there are no collets. It has the oil lines and push rod tubes as shown. There are no push rods.
The cylinder head is in decent condition. I have checked the usual place (around the front studs) for cracks. I don’t see any cracks or repairs. The barrels look OK. They are fitted with the tappet blocks.
Fins all over are fine.
The engine case halves have matching numbers. This makes it a matched pair of big bearing T100 engine cases from factory.
The rockers are fitted to the rocker covers.
Numbers are:
- Ali cylinder head: E2679
- Ali fin barrel: E2958
- Right side (timing side) engine case: E3281
- Outer timing cover: E2219
- Rocker box: E1461-2
You will probably need a few minor nuts and bolts as a few don’t match. You will also need some new rocker cover gaskets.
Bottom line: This is an engine for rebuild. It is missing some parts, but it is considerably cheaper than a fully equipped engine, or a rebuilt one. However, it is the most desirable engine as the big bearing pre unit, as shown with the close fin ali head and barrel, can be used on models like the TR5 Trophy as it looks similar.
