1939 Triumph Single 250cc OHV 2H engine for rebuild.

I bought this as a spare incase my 250cc Triumph T70 engine had issues. I have now bought a spare T70 engine. So, this 2H motor is not needed by me now.

The engine case halves are a matched pair from factory. I have shown a picture of the matching case numbers.

It came to me without a barrel, so I have included a nice STD bore T70 (250cc) barrel.

There are lots of pictures here. Please have a browse through them.

Condition of the 1939 Triumph Single 250cc OHV 2H engine

It is only loosely assembled and will be missing some parts. The images show what is included. There are fixings missing like cylinder head studs / nuts, push rods and tubes, together with timing cover fasteners.

The outer timing cover houses the oil pump. The oil pump is fitted. As you can see the timing gears are there with cams. The cylinder head appears complete with valves and valve springs. The outer threads on the flywheel / crank look decent.

This engine is being sold as you see it and needing a complete check-over, together with a rebuild.
Fins are generally good. As mentioned earlier, the cylinder barrel has good fins. There is no piston but there is a connecting rod attached to the crank.

The engine number is clear but I haven’t published it on here. Please see the images for the number. It’s definitely a 1939 engine for the Triumph 2H model.

The crank is stiff. This engine has sat around for a while. The cams look OK. They have some wear but not terrible.

Have a look at the left hand carb flange on the head. There is a small chunk missing on the outer edge. There is enough there for a bolt to tighten up.

Finally, the engine case looks like it has had a repair on the underside at the rear. I am not sure whether it’s the case, or just the mounting that has had a repair. It appears to have held OK and must be an old repair.

The barrel is in decent condition. I have stored it with loads of grease but I cleaned it off for the pictures (re-greased after pics). Bore is 63mm.
