1955 AJS / Matchless Model 20 500cc engine for sale.
The engine is in good overall condition. The crank turns freely. I have not tested the engine, nor have I taken it apart, so assume that you will need to break it down to check it over. Some small parts may be missing (That’s not code for “things are missing”. I’m just covering myself and managing expectations).
As it’s an AJS motor, it will probably suit the Matchless 500cc models of the same era.
The engine number is 55 20 27742
The carburettor mount is included. There are only 3 fixing machine screws for the front cover. There is a small repair inside the timing cover for one of the fixings. The mad drive pinion is included (as shown) and is currently kept inside the timing cover.
I have taken the front cover off to show you what is inside the timing chest. I have also removed the rocker caps to show that all of the rockers, valves, valve springs and push rods exist. When I turn the crank by hand, they all move as they should. Because I didn’t build the engine, I am still saying that it is for rebuild, despite it all looking so good.
