3 Speed Mk1 KSS Velocette gearbox 1927- 1931
This late 1920’s / early 1930’s KSS MK1 Velocette gearbox is in decent condition. It turns by hand and has the gear selector arm as shown in the images. The selector “selects”.
I have not taken the gearbox apart to inspect the gears. So, it is being sold as a gearbox that turns but is not guaranteed. The cases and cover are OK. The visible threads are nice. Note the slit in the brass OIL filler cap.
I think the part numbers are as follows, but you will be the best judge of that.
Gearbox housing BK-1/4
Gearbox end cover BK-2/26
The box came with a tag which has become faded over time. The following is the best I can do to replicate what was on the tag:
1. BK10/4X (19/22/26) Layshaft
2. B9/3X (25) Low gear
3. B8/26X (18) Sleeve gear
4. B8/3X (22) Middle gear
Bear in mind that the tag might not directly relate to this gearbox. However, it’s useful information if this happens to be the correct list of contents.
If it turns out that these gears are inside, then they are for 1928-on as Velocette changed their method of hardening the gears to “oil hardened”. The “X” in the numbers denote this difference.
The gearbox number is clearly marked, See the images. It says “XT 234”.
