Blackburne motorcycle engine original mid 1920s outer timing cover 348cc OHV.
I say “mid 1920s outer timing cover 348cc OHV” because I have seen images of a 1925 Cotton Model 29 with one of these. I have also see and 1925 New Gerrard with the same cover and 350cc engine.
Most of the early / mid twenties engines seem to have outer timing covers with holes for external oil pumps. Clearly, this cover doesn’t have the hole for the oil pump.
So, if you happen to have a need for a nice original outer timing chain case cover for your 348cc Blackburne equipped motorcycle, then this one might fit. If it helps with identification, the Birmal cast number is 6099.
Condition. Well it’s around 100 years old. It has marks. The outside of the lower left fixing has lost some edge. In fact most of them have. There has been a little bit of corrosion and the leading edge has a bit of damage.
Tough to find out there. Grab it, even if you don’t need it right now.
