Tan-Sad type 1920s vintage motorcycle sprung pillion seat / saddle.
Tan-Sad supplied motorcycle accessories and offered a variety of saddles for flat tank motorcycles. I am not certain that this is specifically a “Tan-Sad” seat because I can’t find an identical one in any of the brochures. It has many similarities though. If you know which brand it is for sure, I will be pleased to hear from you.
It’s actually very similar to a sprung pillion passenger saddle that I had on a 1933 Peugeot that I had. It clamped to the rear rack and was quickly detached.
This particular saddle is sound, despite appearances. It has the original (but frayed) hand grip webbing. Obviously, it will need some new padding and a cover. However, the frame is solid and the springs are intact. It’s a nice accessory as an addition to your vintage bike. I’ve had it for a while and now don’t plan on using it.
Dimensions are approximate:
- Length overall: 17″ (43cm)
- Width of seat base: 8.5″ (21.5cm)
- Inside dimension between front : 8 5/8″ (22cm)
- Inside dimension at rear mount nearest springs : 8.5″ (21.6cm)

Over the years have collected many pillion seats, saddles and “bum pads”. I have now decided to sell almost all of them. I was keeping them in case I had a need for them on a future project but I am now thinning out my project plans. If you need a vintage motorcycle pillion seat, saddle and “bum pad” please take a look at my other items, or message me in case I haven’t got around to making them all available.
