Veteran & vintage motorcycles Levis two stroke engine 211cc Fixed Gear flywheel pulley

£198.00

Levis two stroke engine for Veteran & vintage motorcycles with fixed Gear flywheel pulley. This Levis two stroke engine is for the lightweight flat tank motorbikes. I have an original Levis motorcycles sales brochure from 1924. It still shows the Levis Popular Model with the same 2-1/4 H.P. 211cc engine.
As Levis made these engines for other motorcycle manufacturers, it’s possible to use this engine for many early lightweight machines.
  • 211cc
  • 2-stroke
  • 2-1/4 H.P.
  • around 1919.
They began production of Levis motorcycles in 1911 and stayed with small 2-stoke engines until the mid 1920’s when they introduced a 4-stroke engine.
Levis supplied engines to many smaller veteran & vintage motorcycle manufacturers. The patent stamp suggests that it was applied for / granted in 1912. I think these engines were supplied for the Levis Popular models, and other lightweight Levis motorcycles up until the early 1920’s.
This particular Levis two stroke engine has an engine number stamped: 10,777. A Levis vintage or veteran motorcycle enthusiast will probably have the engine number information to hand in order to date it. I just had to go on previous engines that I have owned, together with what is available online. However, previous engines had a letter following the number. That suggested that they were for specific customer manufacturers. Without a letter in the engine number, it suggests that this was actually for a Levis-made motorcycle.
As the engine is a “fixed gear” version with a flywheel that incorporates the belt drive pulley, I think we can ignore Levis models from the early-to-mid 1920’s as they has gearboxes and chain drive to the rear wheel. I think they offered fixed gear models until about 1920. Combining this information with dating knowledge of previous engines that I have had, I suggest that this engine is from 1919.
The Levis two stroke engine is being sold as a non-runner.

Condition of the Levis two stroke engine

It turns over by hand but there is no piston. I have taken a picture through the port and you can see the gudgeon pin at the top of the connecting rod. There is a crankshaft and connecting rod. The barrel is in ok condition. It will need a good clean. The head is OK. There are two chipped fins (as shown).
The cases appear to be in good condition and there are no cracks or welds from what I can see.
