SOLD – 1935 J.A.P. 350cc SV Engine Made to customer specifications

NOW SOLD. Off to Finland

1935 JAP Side Valve 350cc motorcycle engine. Originally specially prepared by J.A Prestwich to customer specifications. The “S” denotes the special preparation to customer spec’s. They were fitted to variety of motorcycles.

The number is 1/R 46660/S

The case halves match.

The engine is in good overall condition. The crank turns and it is fitted with an oil pump. I have not tested the engine, nor have I taken it apart, so assume that you will need to break it down to check it over. Some small parts may be missing (That’s not code for “things are missing”. I’m just covering myself and managing expectations). When I turn the crank by hand, it is smooth until it comes to an abrupt halt. The cams turn and the inlet valve opens and closes. When it comes to the turn of the exhaust valve to move, it won’t budge. Without taking it apart, I think the exhaust valve is probably just stuck. I don’t really plan on taking the engine apart (and it is for sale as an engine for rebuild), so let’s assume the exhaust valve will need to be freed off. A peek down the spark plug hole reveals the existence of a piston.

Overall, this engine is in good condition and without any obvious damage to the cases. The only thing I can see if the exhaust valve cap has a bit of damage on it.

Viewing: Please come and check it over before you buy. It is at PE28, near St Ives in Cambridgeshire.

Shipping: I usually ship to most destinations. If you don’t see a price, please ask. Thanks. International shipping available.

Collection: If you don’t want it shipped, I have plenty of space. If you can’t collect for a while, it’s not a problem. However, I will need to be paid very soon after the sale. Thanks.

Payment: Good old fashioned money on collection is preferred. I can accept payment through PayPal or by bank transfer as well.

Import Taxes: (I need to mention this as I had someone buy something from me and they were based in Europe. They thought I should list the item including all taxes and shipping. Considering import duties vary enormously, this is impractical even if it was possible). Please note that IMPORT DUTIES are not something I can control. If you are buying from outside the UK, there is a chance that you will have to pay import taxes. Import taxes vary from country to country. If there are charges to pay, it is the buyer’s responsibility to research the cost and pay the duties. The price that you see on my advert is for the item and not the item plus whatever taxes might be due. ref 798
