P&H veteran vintage motorcycle carbide acetylene headlamp. Model #125
This Powell & Hanmer carbide headlamp is well presented, considering it is over 100 years old. It is one of a few carbide / acetylene gas-powered lights that I have available.
It seems that the main three manufacturers for carbide motorcycle headlamps are; Miller, Lucas and P&H. There were others, but these makers are the most prolific.
This P&H carbide headlamp is a medium-to-large sized version.
- The glass is 4-1/4″” diameter.
- The rim outside diameter is 5-1/2″.
- The height overall is 6″.
- The depth (Front to back) is 5″ excluding the peak.
Condition:
In a word…. Good.
What you are looking at is the nickel plate that would have been under a thin coat of black paint. Some people like these carbide lamps just in the nickel plate. This particular lamp had flaky black paint. It hadn’t keyed well, so I removed the black paint to show just how nice this lamp is. If you look very closely, you can just see a few traces of black paint here and there. I’ve done most of the work.
Unusually, it does NOT have dents or dings. It does NOT have any nasty corrosion. The glass and mirror are very nice. The mirror shows a tiny amount or corrosion, but there are no cracks. The front cover hinge and clasp work just as they should. The wick is fine.
Overall, this P&H veteran vintage motorcycle carbide acetylene headlamp #125, is in good condition and would suit most types of flat tank vintage, veteran, motorcycles.
