British motorcycle dispatch rider set of webbing Y-straps for canvas panniers.

War department dispatch riders for military motorcycles were usually supplied with a set of webbing Y-straps for canvas panniers. They are often missing when people rebuild their WD motorcycle. The pannier frames were standard to all motorbikes bikes and include: BSA, Matchless, Norton, Aerial etc and these Y-straps are a great accessory.

This particular set of dispatch rider webbing Y-straps for canvas panniers have WD Kite marks stamps (Shown in the images). They stamp reads: “1941”. Please note that colour tones are shown different from one screen to another. I can say that these panniers are not the more common light sandy version of khaki.

As you can see in the first image, there is an extra strap included in this sale.

** IMPORTANT **

I have shown the Y-straps fitted to the khaki WD panniers so that you can see them together. The pair of panniers ARE NOT INCLUDED in this sale. They are available separately.

Features of these webbing Y-straps for canvas panniers.

The owner believes that these Y-straps might be original issue. All I can say is that the brass buckles are well tarnished and they look like they could be old.

They are made using the correct WW2 pattern for the dispatch rider canvas panniers.

I have some correct canvas panniers that would be a nice addition to these straps. See the brown canvas panniers here.

Other War Department motorcycle items

If I have anything that is appropriate for motorcycles that are between 1939 and 1945, I have included them on the following page for WD items.
