BSA 4.93 hp / 5.57 hp vintage motorcycle CLUTCH from 1920’s and 1930’s.

From various design elements, I believe this is a BSA CLUTCH from 1920’s and 1930’s. I have been through my parts books and compared the clutch dome and clutch basket.

The dome looks like part number 15-372 and the main clutch chain basket looks like 25-4782.

Looking at the tables in my 1929 parts book, those parts were used on a variety of models but the motorcycles that used both parts together were the 4.93 hp OHV  Light  and the 5.57 hp De Luxe.

I imagine that a Vintage BSA expert will cast a glance and either confirm this, or other wise.

Bottom line… You decide if it’s what you need. I have heard that these clutches have been used on other marques as they are easy to get on with.

Condition: Well, I haven’t taken it apart. It all seems to be there. The tapered shaft hole looks OK and the keyway looks fine. The 48 T sprocket also looks like it could still lead a useful life. The only thing worth noting is that one of the small studs is missing that holds the dome in place. This is a BSA clutch that you will need to take apart and re-fit.

If you have a Flat tank, round tank or early 1930’s saddle tank BSA, it might be worth having this just in case. If you are lucky enough to have wither a BSA 4.93 hp / 5.57 hp vintage motorcycle then this CLUTCH is a must-have.
